There's nothing wrong with bringing a bottle of wine to a friend's house for dinner (it's what I do most of the time), but every once in a while, I'll bring something more unexpected. I've shared my ideas for bringing the hostess breakfast for the next morning or a beautiful flower arrangement, but lately I've been testing out a new idea that's been pretty well received: homemade croutons. They're perfect to finish a caesar salad, or even sprinkled on top of tomato soup and most people don't take the time to make them. But the difference between the store-bought variety and homemade is huge. I cut a day-old loaf of sourdough into cubes, spread them into a single layer on a baking sheet, drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle a bit of salt and bake for 12-15 minutes at 400°. I package them in a cellophane bag with a little tag and a small rosemary branch!
I'd love to know - What are your go-to hostess gifts?
